Yesterday I took my wife to the library, where she tutors in math. Being the efficient lady she is, and wanting to keep her Mama with plenty of good books to read, checked out some books for that purpose. She asked if I would take them on out to the car. That way she could go ahead and get ready for tutoring.

I had already planned to do that, so I took the books and went out to the car. So far so good. I opened the back door, then saw something I needed to take care of.  With one hand, I moved things where they belonged and went back into the library. No problem. Mission accomplished! (Do you see where this is going?)

I got about halfway back to where Karen was set up and I looked in my hand. I just shook my head and thought, “why did I bring those in here?” I still had the bag of books in my hand, and I didn’t even know it! (And they were heavy too.) Good people, I do this all the time! I know I’m not alone in this, and that gives this senior a good deal of comfort.

This week’s post reminds us of this truth: “There is Power in the Blood”

The song, “There is Power in the Blood” was written by Lewis Edgar Jones, who was born in 1865. He was a graduate of Moody Bible Institute, in the same class as famous evangelist Billy Sunday. The link below gives the full story and the scriptural references related to this song. After the link is the words to this anointed song.  First the link, then the words.

I had a good laugh at the eyeglass repair place this morning. My left lens came out, so I had to take it in to get it fixed. I wanted to have some fun with the owner, so I walked in and said: “I’ve got a screw loose – again.” “Again?” he said? I had been there before for the same problem.

He went on to tell me that he uses Loc-tite when he does this repair and he couldn’t believe that happened again. He thought maybe it was the screw was stripped out. (So I’ve got a loose screw and a stripped gear? Nice.) He assured me “Nope. That’s got a good bite to it.” By the end of the eyeglass repair, I had a loose screw, a stripped gear, and now I was hungry! All it all, that little adventure turned out to quite entertaining!

Have a joy-filled day!

I want to tell you how God protected us on I-20 at about 70 miles per hour!

Damage from blow out on the interstate

God protected us

We had some trauma today, which showed that the Lord was in control and was seriously protecting us in a blowout on the interstate. It was the back driver side tire that came apart – not really a blow-out. We noticed it was shaking really bad as we were coming on to I-20 in Mississippi. We were on our way home from a shopping trip with Karen’s mom. After about 15 seconds of shaking, the tire went kaput. With God’s help, I was able to hang on to the steering wheel and get it off the road. We figured it was just a flat, but it also did some damage to the back quarter panel and back door.  God protected us from people flying around our blown tire, coming quickly by us as we stood there trying to get hold of insurance, rental company, and tow truck. Very confusing process. Definitely unresolved at that time, and even now as we wait to find out our estimate and how long it will take to get it fixed. Still, God is in control the whole way!

The physical trauma is starting to kick in. The emotional trauma will last awhile. God is getting us through this, but it is very frustrating. God has protected us so very much, and we are thankful. At this point (two days after the incident), we have many people praying for us, for which we are grateful. God is faithful and will bring us through. He will do the same for you. If you need to talk or need prayer, contact me at pastorjohnday@gmail.com

If you are unresolved, as we all are sometimes, I will be glad to listen to you and pray you through. Sometimes we all need support.

Blessings,
Pastor John

“Trust and Obey” is the song and the message we need to absorb and live out, but how do we do that? How do we apply it? How do we live out the words to the song “Trust and Obey?” The song “Trust and Obey” was written in 1887 by D.B. Towner, the first director of music at Moody Bible Institute in Chicago.  “The blood (of Christ) alone makes us safe. The Word (of God) alone makes us sure. Obedience (to God) makes us happy.” – D.L. Moody Here are the full words to the song, which has been an inspiration to so many over the years. When we walk with the Lord in the light of His Word, What a glory He sheds on our way! While we do His good will, He abides with us still, And with all who will trust and obey. Refrain Trust and obey, for there’s no other way To be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey. Not a shadow can rise, not a cloud in the skies, But His smile quickly drives it away; Not a doubt or a fear, not a sigh or a tear, Can abide while we trust and obey. Refrain Not a burden we bear, not a sorrow we share, But our toil He doth richly repay; Not a grief or a loss, not a frown or a cross, But is blessed if we trust and obey. Refrain But we never can prove the delights of His love Until all on the altar we lay; For the favor He shows, for the joy He bestows, Are for them who will trust and obey. Refrain Then in fellowship sweet, we will sit at His feet. Or we’ll walk by His side in the way. What He says we will do, where He sends we will go; Never fear, only trust and obey. Refrain “For the LORD God is a sun and shield: the LORD will give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly. O LORD of hosts, blessed is the man that trusteth in thee.” – Ps. 84:11-12 https://biblehub.com/kjv/psalms/84.htm – Here is Ps. 84, so you can get the context. God is infinite – He is self-existent without origin – attributes series

Today begins a  series of Bible studies on the attributes of God. The plan is to do one attribute per week. Today we look at the fact that God is infinite. He is self-existent without origin. That is comforting to know for those who of us who are still unresolved in the issues of life. What we can’t explain, we can still know.

Col. 1:17 says “And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist.” and Psalms 147:5 says of God “Great is our Lord, and abundant in power; his understanding is beyond measure” – Psalm 147:5

I will close my portion of this with a quote from the article being used for this series. (The link is at the end.)

In his article on Christianity.com, Dr. Adrian Rogers writes about the self-existence of God: “The name Jehovah is used some 6,800 times in the Bible. It is the personal covenant name of Israel’s God. In the King James Version of the Bible, it’s translated Lord God. Not only does it speak of God’s strength, but also it speaks of the sovereignty of God and the goodness of God. The root of this name means “self-existing,” one who never came into being, and one who always will be. When Moses asked God, “Who shall I tell Pharaoh has sent me?” God said, “I AM THAT I AM.” Jehovah or Yahweh is the most intensely sacred name to Jewish scribes and many will not even pronounce the name. When possible, they use another name.”

“Healing Prayer” – for people who’s body is unresolved is a song and a prayer for those with short and long term illness. I hope it ministers to your soul as well. Feel free to share this song, as the Lord leads. Here is a link to the video on YouTube:

Healing Prayer

Verse 1

I will not cry “great spirit”, or “higher one than I”, I will not use big lofty words, to try to draw You nigh. Instead I’ll call you “Father”, “Papa, hear my prayer to come. I’m asking, Lord, for healing power, in the name of Your dear Son.”

Chorus:

In Jesus’ name, I pray for healing. In Jesus’ name, I pray for peace.

In Jesus’ name, come heal my body. Come heal it in Jesus’ name.

Verse 2

The doctors don’t know what to do. They cannot find the cause. They poke and prod and test my body. Lord, this all seems odd. I know you made each cell of mine, You know me inside out. I’m leaving all this in Your hands. Lord, help me not to doubt.

Chorus:

In Jesus’ name, I pray for healing. In Jesus’ name, I pray for peace.

In Jesus’ name, come heal my body. Come heal it in Jesus’ name.

Verse 3

Oh Lord, my soul is anguished, my mind it is so stressed. Lord, I need Your healing, O Lord I need your rest. Bring healing peace, rest and release, each and every day. Please bring these things, dear Father. In Jesus’ name I pray.

Chorus:

In Jesus’ name, I pray for healing. In Jesus’ name, I pray for peace.

In Jesus’ name, come heal my body. Come heal it in Jesus’ name.

Meet Bootsie, the Wonder Cat

Meet Bootsie, the Wonder Cat! Bootsie is my mother in law’s cat and is close to 21 years old. That is really old for a cat! The other title I could have given this true story is “Who has believed our report?”, based on Is. 53: 1
Who hath believed our report? and to whom is the arm of the LORD revealed?” (KJV). Why does this scripture apply? Because I had believed the wrong report! I had believed the report that I heard in my head. I thought sure this adventure with taking Bootsie to the vet, was going to come out much worse. Not to be morbid, but I was not expecting her to make it through this trauma. She had thrown up the day before, and again yesterday morning. She was in Jackie’s lap, crying. That was the report I had stuck in my head when we headed over there to pick Bootsie up to take her to the vet. I was expecting to bury her, that she wouldn’t even make it to the appointment. Praise the Lord, I was wrong! (By the way, I just looked it up, and Bootsie, in human years, is 100 years old!)

Bootsie, the wonder cat shouldn’t be alive, but by the grace of God, she is. She was anxious to get out of that cage and get away from us after her ordeal – temperature was taken (no fever!), blood drawn, fluids put in her, and trapped in the pet carrier as we took her to the vet. She was glad to get out of there! The rest of the day, she stayed in Jackie’s lap.

To whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?Yesterday it was revealed to us! We believed the wrong report, but God had a better plan and knew that the outcome would be much different.

We would do well to follow Paul’s admonition in Phil. 4:8 – “Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

Thank you, God, for Your good report, and for working all things together for Your good. (Rom. 8:28)

Blessings,
Pastor John

Seniors are Unresolved in Finances

Senior citizens are unresolved, in transition, in process in many areas – physical, mental, social, spiritual, emotional, and financial. In this writing, we are going to focus on the financial struggles that many seniors have to endure.

Many men and women work hard to establish a career. They work their way up the corporate ladder, then realize there is a financial drop-off. Sure, they knew they weren’t going to retire at full pay, but were they ready for the change in income? Some are, but many are not. Savings may help, but it is still an adjustment.

And then there are those that never made it to the top of that corporate ladder, or are kicked off before they even have a chance to finish that journey, sometimes through no fault of their own. They and their dependents rely on that income, limited as it may be. Finances for many senior citizens are stretched and sometimes broken.

But there is hope. As a believer in Jesus Christ, I cling to two verses during these confusing financial times. Philippians 4:19 says that “God will supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.” In another verse, we are reassured that “all things work together for good for them that love the Lord and are called according to His purposes.”

While finances may be unstable and not totally reliable, at least for some of us, we can have the security that no matter what happens, God will see us through and will provide all of our needs. Do you have this security? You can, if you surrender your finances, and every area of your life, to Jesus Christ. Finances may not be secure, but those of us in Christ are. Let’s cling to that.

Blessings,
Pastor John
